Ho incontrato la Fede bahá’í in quella che chiamo la seconda parte della mia vita. Mi sono imbattuto in persone meravigliose, che mi hanno aiutato a capire quanto fosse piena di energia la parola di Bahá’ulláh, capace di infondermi la consapevolezza della mia spiritualità che, forse, era latente o solo latitante in quel momento.

Questo incontro ha portato ad una vera trasformazione della mia vita, sia personale che sociale.

I miei figli, ora adulti, sono cresciuti senza una vera educazione religiosa e ne sono rimasti colpiti, ma sempre con un certo distacco, perché sapevano che si trattava di una mia ricerca personale. È stato difficile, per me, riuscire a trasmettere loro lo spirito di questo percorso.

La mia compagna (ora mia moglie), invece, ancora prima che io mi dichiarassi bahá’í, aveva intrapreso un suo personalissimo cammino di ricerca spirituale, indipendente, libero e, ad un certo punto, ha deciso di accettare la fede bahá’í. Questo percorso ci ha dato una grande forma di conforto e sostegno reciproco. Tutti e due abbiamo sentito (e sentiamo tuttora), soprattutto, una grandissima gioia.

Credo che applicare i principi di Bahá’ulláh all’interno del nostro matrimonio abbia fatto crescere il nostro rapporto e lo abbia influenzato positivamente.

Ci siamo conosciuti nel periodo nella mia ricerca, in cui leggevo molti libri bahá’í per approfondire la mia comprensione del messaggio. Si può dire che siamo partiti insieme, in questo percorso, anche se ognuno in modo indipendente. All’epoca abitavamo distanti (lei era in Russia), per cui le mandavo ogni sera un pezzo della storia bahá’í, o una citazione dei principi, poche frasi da leggere. È stata, soprattutto, una condivisione libera.

Anche lei, grazie a Dio, ha incontrato delle persone eccezionali nel suo paese (la Russia), ed è riuscita a capire il vero spirito del messaggio e riconoscere Bahá’ulláh, senza il mio contributo. Il nostro rapporto è basato senz’altro sulla condivisione dei principi bahá’í, che cerchiamo di applicare nella nostra vita.

Credo che la Fede bahá’í non possa essere una religione che si usa come una semplice denominazione, un’etichetta da mettere su un documento, come un’appartenenza. È, invece, un’appartenenza ad un codice di comportamenti, amati e rispettati, visti come l’unica soluzione ai problemi del mondo. Essere bahá’í è un percorso spirituale, che porta alla consapevolezza della natura spirituale dell’uomo e che ti fa assimilare, man mano, tutti gli altri principi.

Come anticipato, avere scoperto la mia spiritualità, ha cambiato la mia vita personale, sociale e professionale. La mia è un’età in cui le persone si sono già fatte un’idea della tua personalità, del tuo carattere, del tuo modo di essere. Alcuni hanno apprezzato molto il mio cambiamento. Altri, invece, si sono un po’ distaccati perché amavano il “personaggio” che c’era prima (più o meno divertente) per cui, la trasformazione, è stata interpretata solo come un colpo di testa. Ma, devo ammettere, il numero delle persone che ha apprezzato il cambiamento è stato maggiore e anzi, spesso, le persone mi hanno detto “ti invidio”.

In realtà sono stato fortunato. Ho incontrato le parole di Bahá’ulláh sul mio cammino, ed una serie di eventi e coincidenze mi hanno portato alla consapevolezza. Sono stato scelto? Oppure ho scelto io? Non lo sapremo mai! Sicuramente c’è stato l’intervento divino, nel mettere sulla mia strada la possibilità di poter riconoscere il potere spirituale di queste parole.

Il messaggio di Bahá’ulláh porta ad una trasformazione personale, e sociale. Quest’ultima avviene attraverso il servizio. Sono stato incoraggiato, dagli amici bahá’í, fin dall’inizio del mio percorso, a dedicarmi al servizio. “Hai delle qualità, mettile a disposizione della comunità. Vai e fai!”.

Questa idea di poter mettere le proprie capacità, i propri talenti, le proprie modalità, che sono diverse per ognuno di noi, a disposizione di un servizio per una comunità, l’ho trovata subito fantastica. Chiaramente ho imparato molto, e ho fatto anche molti errori, inizialmente. Ero molto entusiasta, e qualcuno avrà pensato, forse, che esagerassi. In effetti, con il tempo, si maturano le cose e si capisce che il messaggio bahá’í necessita di una lunga metabolizzazione.

Tornando al discorso del servizio, e di come offrire le proprie capacità, essendo traduttore e interprete ho iniziato con la traduzione di brevi scritti, dall’inglese all’italiano. Poi ho iniziato con una piccola attività di teatro per i bambini, e con le classi di educazione alle virtù per bambini, insieme ad altri animatori ed educatori bahá’í. E da lì, sempre di più, ho cercato di mettere al servizio della comunità quello che ritengo di poter fare. Il servizio di traduttore aumenta sempre di più, e questo mi fa molto piacere. Ci sono stati progetti molti impegnativi da affrontare (per esempio, la traduzione di un grosso libro), ma ho capito che con il metodo, l’applicazione, l’impegno, la dedizione e il desiderio si può ottenere tutto. E, ovviamente, ho fatto tesoro dei consigli di altre persone che avevano più esperienza nel campo.

Il messaggio di Bahá’ulláh porta alla costruzione di comunità. Per me la comunità è un insieme di intenti che nel mondo bahá’í costruisce rapporti. I rapporti interpersonali sono fondamentali. Il fatto che gli incontri bahá’í si svolgano in abitazioni private, a meno che non ci siano manifestazioni che richiamino un numero maggiore di persone, è un indice di come il rapporto personale, la conoscenza personale, il voler estendere questo al vicinato, l’educazione dei bambini, siano dei cardini della visione bahá’í: sentirci uniti. Ci sono frasi di Bahá’ulláh che sembrano molto semplici, ma che costituiscono il pilastro del messaggio. Pensare che “la terra è un solo paese e l’umanità i suoi abitanti” oppure pensare che “siamo tutti foglie dello stesso ramo”, “gocce dello stesso oceano”, “stelle dello stesso firmamento” sono concetti semplici ed essenziali, ma di una profondità fantastica

Mi piacerebbe continuare a contribuire alla costruzione di comunità. Sono a disposizione cercando di utilizzare al meglio tutta la mia esperienza professionale, per esempio nell’organizzazione di eventi, oppure con l’utilizzo della parte rappresentativa, la parte teatrale, la parte espositiva. Vorrei portare la Parola di Bahá’ulláh in questo modo, dovunque si possa fare.

Per esempio, questa iniziativa I Believe è fantastica, perché consente di costruire qualcosa che è itinerante e, quindi, potrà coinvolgere molte persone, molti comuni, molte amministrazioni comunali, dove esporre la mostra fotografica con i suoi contenuti. Credo che sia veramente un’iniziativa fondamentale, che rappresenta lo specchio di come è composta questa comunità cosi importante, cosi vibrante, cosi grande: giovani, vecchi, senza divisioni di nessun tipo, di estrazione sociale, di colore. Una comunità costruita secondo i principi fondamentali portati da Bahá’ulláh.

I met the bahá'í faith in what I consider the second part of my life. I came across wonderful people, who helped me understand how invigorating and powerful the Word of Bahá'ulláh is, capable of infusing me with the awareness of my own spirituality which, perhaps, had been latent or just in hiding for a long time.

It meant a real transformation of both my personal and my social life.

My children, now adults, grew up without a proper religious education and were impressed by my transformation, though still keeping a certain detachment, because they knew it was my own personal research. It was difficult for me to succeed in conveying to them the spirit of my journey.

On the contrary my partner (now my wife), even before I declared myself as a bahá'í, had embarked on her personal path of spiritual, independent, free research and, some time later, decided to accept the bahá'í faith. We both found on this path mutual support, comfort and, above all, a great feeling of joy.

I believe that applying Bahá’u’lláh’s principles within our marriage has positively influenced and improved our relationship.

We met during the time of my research, when I was reading many bahá'í books in order to deepen my understanding of the Message. We can say that we started together along this path, although each of us independently. At the time we lived far away one another (she was in Russia), so I used to send her a passage from the bahá'í history every night, or a quotation from the principles, a few sentences to read. Above all, it was a free sharing.

Thank God, she met some extraordinary people, too, in Russia and was able to understand the true spirit of the Message and to recognize Bahá'u’lláh’s Figure. Our relationship is certainly based on sharing the bahá'í principles, which we strive to apply in our lives.

I believe that the bahá'í faith shouldn’t be labelled as a mere religious denomination, or a group identity. Instead, it means belonging to a code of beloved and respected behaviors, considered the only solution to the problems of the world. Being a bahá'í brings you on a spiritual path leading to the awareness of man’s spiritual nature and makes you assimilate all the other principles gradually.

As mentioned earlier, having discovered my spirituality has changed my personal, social and professional life. At my age people round me already had a set idea of ​my personality, my character, my way of being. Some of them really appreciated my change. Others, on the other hand, were a bit detached because they only loved the more or less “funny character" they saw in me, so the transformation was only interpreted as an impulsive rash decision. But I must admit, the number of people who appreciated the change was greater and some even came to tell me "I envy you".

Actually I was lucky. I met Bahá'ulláh's words on my journey and at the same time a series of events and coincidences led me to awareness. Have I been chosen? Or did I choose? Who will ever know? Surely there was a divine intervention in setting on my path the possibility of being able to recognize the spiritual power of His words.

The message of Bahá'u lláh leads to a personal and social transformation. The latter occurs through service. I was encouraged by the bahá'í friends, since the beginning of my journey, to devote myself to service. "You have some skills, make them available to the community. Just go and do it!".

I immediately found this idea wonderful: ​​being able to put one's own abilities, talents, ways, which are different for each of us, available to a service for the community. Obviouslyly I had to learn a lot, and initially I made many mistakes. I was very excited and full of enthusiasm, and someone might have thought, perhaps, that I was exaggerating. In fact, with time, I understood the need of maturation and metabolization of the bahá'í Message.

Back to the subject of service, and how to offer one's own skills, I started offering my service of translator and interpreter, translating short writings from english into italian. Then I started with a small theater activity in the children Classes, along with other bahá'í animators and educators. And from there, I increasingly tried to put at the service of the community what I think I can offer. The translator service work is growing and growing and this makes me very happy. There have been many challenging projects to face (for example, the translation of a very important book), but I have understood that through method, application, commitment, dedication and will, everything can be achieved. And of course, I learned from the advice of other people who had more experience in the field.

Bahá'u’lláh's message leads to community building. To me community is a set of common purposes that builds relationships in the bahá'í world. Interpersonal relationships are fundamental. The fact that bahá'í meetings take place in private homes, unless in the case of events attracting a great number of people, is an indication of how the personal relationship, personal knowledge, the desire to extend this to the neighborhood, the education of children, represent the cornerstones of the bahá'í vision: to feel united. There are phrases of Bahá'u’lláh that sound very simple, but which constitute the pillar of His Message. To think that "the earth is one country and humanity its inhabitants" or to think that "we are all leaves of the same branch", "drops of the same ocean", “stars of the same firmament” are basic and essential concepts but their depth is extraordinary.

I would like to continue contributing to building communities. I am available, trying to make the best use of all my professional experience, for example in the organization of events, or through drama, the theatrical part, or the exhibition part like this one. This is how I would like to divulgate the Word of Bahá'u’lláh, wherever possible.

For example, this “I Believe” initiative is fantastic, because it allows the creation of something that is itinerant and, therefore, it can involve many people, many municipalities, many associations, where to exhibit the narrative photography with its contents. I believe that it really is a fundamental initiative, which represents the mirror of how such an important, vibrant, great community is made of: young, old, no divisions of any kind, of social class, of color. A community built according to the fundamental principles brought by Bahá'u’lláh.
